Tom joined GKI in 2019 and supports the Systems Research & Evaluation and Network Facilitation & Design programs. His background in collaborative innovation and applied research to guide community-based approaches supports GKI’s drive to take on pressing and complex challenges. With a specific focus on topics surrounding climate, conservation, and agriculture, Tom seeks to work with others to develop solution-oriented pathways that empower people to be their own best advocate for creating lasting change. More precisely, Tom employs systems thinking and human-centered design approaches to meet these objectives.
Prior to joining the GKI team, Tom served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uganda. During his service he specialized in researching and developing programs to promote climate change adaptation from the bottom-up. Tom also has a background working with land management agencies throughout the American West to promote environmental stewardship and restoration. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Utah State University in environmental studies and geography. In his free time, Tom enjoys training to be a competitive runner, attempting to play the guitar, and cheering for his hometown Cleveland teams.
