Sona Gandhi

Interim Chief Operating Officer


Sona joined GKI as Chief Operating Officer (Interim) in March 2019.  She brings 15 years of executive experience in international non-profits with rapidly evolving priorities and complex operating environments. Sona is skilled at building consensus and delivering results in dispersed, cross-functional, matrixed organizations with competing stakeholders. She excels at empowering employees and optimizing organizational performance in a collaborative and innovative fashion.

Sona comes to GKI from FINCA Impact Finance, a global microfinance network with over 10,000 employees and spanning 20 countries.  At FINCA, Sona served in leaderships roles for over 13 years both at its Washington, DC Headquarters and in its Subsidiaries in Latin America, the Middle East and South Asia.  Most recently, she led FINCA’s subsidiary in Guatemala, which provides responsible financial services to over 30,000 clients via 400 employees, 30 branches, and a $25 million loan portfolio.  Before moving overseas, Sona spent 9 years at FINCA HQ where she served for 5 years as Vice-President & Deputy to the Global President and CEO and was a member of the Senior Management Team.

Prior to FINCA, Sona worked in investment banking in New York City and in management consulting in Washington, DC.  Sona has an undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Maryland and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.   Sona is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks conversational Gujarati and French.  In her free time, Sona enjoys spending time with friends and family.
